5 Deodorant Mistakes That You Need To Avoid Making

Updated: May 19, 2021

Using a deodorant after a bath or during the day is a popular practise for most people. Some people can even take it with them to refresh themselves after sports, the gym, or a run. However, there are many errors we make while using deodorants. These can reduce the effectiveness of your deodorants, affecting their scent. If you believe your deodorant isn't working properly, try these.

Understanding The Difference Between Deodorant And Antiperspirant:

Deodorants, which contain fragrance, help to eliminate body odour. These either destroy the odor-causing bacteria or cover them up with an aromatic smell. Antiperspirants, on the other hand, are used to reduce sweat and may or may not have a smell. You must first consider the requirements before selecting the best body spray.

Reapplying Deodorant On Dirty Skin:

It is a common practice to apply deodorant as required during the day. This can cause your deodorant spray to smell strange and stinky. Another blunder is spraying on filthy, sweaty clothing. It can just disguise the odour by introducing a strong odour into it. After about an hour, you can smell bad again. Instead, continue to wear clean and new clothes on a daily basis.

Avoid Spraying Immediately After Shaving:

Chemicals and alcohol are present in both men's and women's body sprays. It will hurt badly if you spray it on freshly shaved skin. You can also feel skin irritation, burning, and redness. Take your time before spraying if you have sensitive skin and want to stop this. To minimise burning, add some talc before applying deo.

Discolouring Clothes:

If your clothes have started to discolor because of body spray, this will help you. Body sprays have talc and certain other chemicals which can discolor your clothes. Next time allows your body spray to dry before wearing clothes. You must also avoid spraying these on your apparel as well.

Avoiding Moisturisation:

Like perfumes, deodorants work better if you apply moisturiser prior to the application. Take an unscented body lotion, apply it to your skin and top it with deodorant. This will protect your skin from irritation and make the scent last for long. You can use any lotion, body oil or moisturising cream for this.
